Care of your mounts

When you hang your trophy, you want to keep it looking as good as it did that first day.  Here are a few steps that can help.

  • Hang using an appropriate size lag screw into a wall stud at a slight downward angle.

  • Avoid moisture, heat, and sunlight.

  • Mounts need frequent and gentle dusting.
For mammals with flat hair, such as elk or deer, you can dust them with a feather duster or Swiffer.  If you must brush it use a soft bristled brush to fix hair that is out of place.

  • Clean the antlers and horns with a damp cloth. Use of oils or lacquers may discolor horns.

  • Clean the eyes with a cotton swab and Windex.

  • If you must handle the mounts do so by antlers/horns and brisket. Antelope hair is especially brittle and touching it can break if off.

  • Clean fish mounts with cans of compressed air with under 20 lbs. of pressure. For some of the more difficult spots you can use a damp cotton swab.

  • Clean bird mounts with a cotton ball or lightly with a feather duster or Swiffer in the direction of the feathers.

  • We all know how great a mount looks over a fireplace, however that is the worst place for a mount. The heat and smoke will destroy our hard work and ruin your trophy.

We also sell cleaning kits with all the tools that you need.

  • How can I make payments?
50% of your mount will be due at the time we take it in. The other half will be due at the time of completion. We accept cash, local check, and all major credit cards.
  • How do I care for the animal until I can get it to you?
Skin the animal out, being careful to not split it up the throat or cut the hide short. Keep the incision well behind the shoulder. You can leave the head unskinned (and paws on life-size skins) and we will finish skinning it. Keep the hide cool and bring it in within 24 hours. If it will be longer than that, place it in a plastic bag and freeze it. Do not salt the hide.
  • How do I get my animal to you?
If you are hunting domestically, it is as simple as freezing and shipping! Contact us for further skinning/shipping details and options. If you are hunting internationally, contact us and we will walk you through the process and send you a packet of information and tags to make importing your trophies easy.
  • How do I hang and care for my mounts when I get home?
Please see our mount care section for a list of complete instructions. We also sell mount care cleaning kits for all your cleaning needs.
  • How long until my mount is complete?
We give people an approximate completion date of a year, but aim to be done sooner. If we anticipate longer turn-around times we will always disclose this to you when we receive your piece. Whatever the length of time, we will not sacrifice quality for a quicker completion time.
  • What are my options for getting my mount after it is done?
We will contact you when the mount is done and discuss shipping options. Please note that shipping is not included in the cost of your mounts.
  • What if I do not want a traditional pose?
You might have the picture of that perfect mount in your head, as we often do. Maybe it is to recapture the excitement and action of the hunt, to fit in your trophy room, or because you just want something different. We can make it happen.
  • When planning my hunt, is there anything I should do ahead of time?"
Contact us and we can walk you through the process. We can send you a packet of information and tags to make importing your trophies easy.
